100 days until Christmas: When is Black Friday 2020?

It might seem to have come around quickly, but believe it or not as of today there are only 100 days until it’s Christmas Day.

And although the festive season might look very different this year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, you can be sure there will still be plenty of seasonal goodwill around when it comes to Christmas gifts.

One day which always figures highly in the run-up to Christmas – in shopping terms at least – is Black Friday, when folks across the UK and beyond take to the shops and online in the hop of nabbing themselves a bargain as the festive season gets underway.

But will Black Friday still be going ahead this year and when is it?

When is Black Friday 2020?

While many of 2020’s biggest events were shelved or altered in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Black Friday will not be among them – it’s set to go ahead on Friday November 27, the day after Thanksgiving in the US.

This will be followed by Cyber Monday on Monday November 30.

Although the day is still going ahead, it could be a pretty different experience this year, with social distancing measures in force, face coverings mandatory in shops and many facilities such as changing rooms remaining closed.

The rules on social gatherings may also still be in force then – so if you do take to the shops that day you won’t be able to do it in a group larger than six (unless you fall into one of the exempt categories).

It isn’t yet clear which retailers will be taking part in Black Friday, although the likes of Argos, Amazon, John Lewis and Currys usually participate, offering days of discounts to their customers.

Traditionally, Black Friday discounts end at 11.59pm on the day itself, or when the discounted stock runs out.

However, many big brands now extend their deals over the weekend and in most cases into the Monday of the following week.

Although Cyber Monday was originally created as the online alternative to Black Friday, deals are now offered online across the entire weekend.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to wait until Black Friday, it’s worth noting that as of today there are 100 shopping days until Christmas 2020.
