The UK’s first ever meat-free drive-thru will throw up its lanes this week.
Vegans, vegetarians, people trying to cut down on meat and those just looking for something a little different can enjoy the entire menu from Wednesday.
The M*** F*** Drive Thru is a collaboration between plant-based company Meatless Farm and street-food burger makers Mother Flipper.
Mother Flipper’s usually meaty menu will be transformed giving three options – The Greta (a burger with aubergine bacon), The Cheeseburger and The McBluffin – a take on the breakfast sandwich.
Everything on the menu is vegetarian as but can be switched for a vegan version if you don’t eat eggs or dairy.
The drive-thru will be at the American Car Wash at 35 Great Eastern Street, Hackney, EC2A 3ER and open from 11am to 3pm.
Sadly, it’s only a short term thing and will close on Monday 31 August.
If you happen to turn up in an electric car or a bicycle, you get 50% off as Meatless Farms wants to encourage people to be more environmentally friendly.
Founder of Meatless Farm Morten Toft Bech said: ‘We’ve been working hard over many years to perfect our original burger patty recipe.
‘Our unique blending process uses ingredients like pea protein alongside other plant-based goodness to create a remarkably meaty experience. The only way to get the world eating more sustainably is to make delicious food.’
The news was posted by Vegan_food_uk on Instagram and people were excited by the concept.
One person said: ‘Amazing to see this, progress.’
Someone else said: ‘Imagine if it’s successful and becomes UK wide.’
However, some vegans criticised the decision to make it vegetarian with a choice to switch to vegan options.
One comment said: ‘Disappointing that’s its not fully vegan. Most of it appears to be vegetarian with egg and cheese on the menu.’
Another added: ‘So it’s NOT a vegan burger drive through then.’
Others were disappointed that it was launching in London, where many people don’t drive. Pedestrians are welcome, but of course, it’s not the same experience.
‘Disappointing to see it’s in London where most people don’t drive or have cars!’ one comment said.
‘Wish this stuff didn’t launch in London first,’ another said.
