Buy a cheap ticket and win a gorgeous home – it’s the property dream.

House raffles have become very popular as of late, due to a combination of owners not being able to sell their properties at a desired price, combined with the fact first-time buyers are struggling to get on the ladder during the pandemic and subsequent recession.

But really, who doesn’t fancy moving into a shiny new pad without having to pay the regular price tag that would come along with it?

The latest house raffle comes in the form of a 3.2million mansion in Portsmouth.

This beautiful five-bedroom house has been fully renovated and sits atop a hill, offering unparalleled ocean and harbour views.

The winner will have 372 sq m of space to play with over two floors, which includes a huge heated pool house, a two-bedroom annex and an orangery, as well as a pond and garden. And let’s not forget the three balconies.

Not bad for £10 per ticket.

‘We bought the place in 2009 and moved in in 2012 after we finished renovating it completely,’ said the owner, who is in his 50s and works as an executive, but otherwise wants to remain anonymous.

‘It was always a bit of a project rather than somewhere to live for years and years to come.

‘The house is too big for us now that my daughter has moved out and we would like to do a bit of travelling around the world.’

The pandemic has definitely played a part in why the owner has decided to run a raffle, however, there are few requirements for him to part with it.

A minimum of 320,000 tickets must be sold, to match the property value.

But it could be a win-win either way, as the owner intends to give the raffle winner the cash if he doesn’t sell enough tickets.

He said: ‘I think it’s a good option to move forward with because of the current climate.

‘It’s an amazing house to live in. The views at the front and back of the house, especially towards Portsdown Hill, are unbeatable.

‘There are two balconies at the front of the house and a large outdoor balcony at the back as well, so the views can be enjoyed in a nice setting.

‘We built a large indoor, heated pool house in the back garden – this is going to be the feature I expect the new owner would enjoy the most.’

You can buy tickets on the raffle website. It will run until 6pm on 22 December, with a live draw at 7pm on Christmas Eve.

Is… is this anonymous man Santa Claus?
