Aldi are known for their dupes, with everything from makeup to breakfast cereal looking eerily similar to big brands – just without the high price tag.

It appears that they may have gone slightly too far this time, though, and have sparked a feud with beer company BrewDog.

Aldi released a new beer called Anti-Establishment IPA, which was eerily reminiscent in name and design to BrewDog’s signature Punk IPA.

From the blue can to the font to the name, there was no doubt that this was a BrewDog dupe, but Aldi’s version costs slightly less.

So BrewDog decided to hit back.

They released a new brew titled Yaldi, with the can featuring a logo that looks a whole lot like the German supermarket chain’s.

Yaldy is Scottish slang for an expression of excitement or happiness, but Yaldi has more of a special ring to it, don’t you think?

The brewery’s Twitter post read: ‘Inspired by Aldi’s take on Punk IPA from yesterday (19 August), we are making a new beer. Yaldi IPA is coming soon! Maybe our friends Aldi UK will even sell it in their stores? #BrewDog.’

And the joking between the two didn’t stop there. Aldi responded with a proposed name change – ALD IPA – and BrewDog founder James liked it so much he rebranded straight away.

They plan to send a case to Aldi to see whether they want to put it on their shelves. Interestingly they already do sell Punk IPA in Aldi stores and online alongside the Anti-Establishment IPA of their own making.

James then set a challenge for Aldi to make the funny feud a force for good, saying: ‘Hey @AldiUK – if you list our new beer, ALD IPA (inspired by your take on Punk IPA), we will plant one tree in our new @BrewDog Forest for every single case you sell. Deal?’

Aldi have yet to respond publicly about this, but we’re sure there are some negotiations going on behind the scenes.

The duper may just have become the dupee.
