Bars and restaurants around the world have been forced to adapt to keep customers and staff safe from coronavirus.
We’ve seen ‘wine windows’ – previously used in the midst of the Plague so people could sell wine without having to touch the infected lower classes – back in action in Florence, due to the pandemic.
In the same vein, a newly opened hotel in the US is now serving cocktails through secret windows to help with social distancing.
Frannie and the Fox bar – which is located inside Hotel Emeline in Charleston’s Historic District – has four wooden stools up against the wall covered in wallpaper, in a speakeasy style.
Similar to the ‘press for champagne’ button at London’s Bob Bob Ricard restaurant, guests must push a button which tells bar staff behind the wall they are ready to order.
As if by magic, a wooden panel will then slide up, so guests can order their beverages without leaning across the bar. Drinks are then served through the cocktail window to keep contact to a minimum.
Bar manager Josh Daws recommends that, for the full experience, it’s best to bring a friend.
He told Travel + Leisure: ‘I think that it begs to have a friend with you to take a photo because it’s just so unique and interesting.
‘It sort of pulled people in and then once you get there and you take a photo, you just sort of ease into the space and … once it’s pulled you in you stay for an hour.’
Elsewhere around the world, the Caribbean island of Anguilla is now accepting online applications for visitors to live and work there, as part of its plans to welcome back tourists following the coronavirus pandemic.
