The pandemic put a dent in movie experiences this summer.
Cinemas were closed for a long time (some still are), while Hollywood wasn’t able to churn out its usual array of choices due to filming being on hold for safety reasons.
But it is not all doom and gloom, as event organisers are finding innovative ways to bring movies to people, while also adhering to social distancing rules.
Please welcome the latest invention: the float-in.
The cinema, which will be hosted on the Thames by Merchant Square in Paddington Basin, features a six-by-three metre LED screen, which guests will be able to enjoy from the privacy of their very own rented boats, with the sound provided through wireless headphones.
However, there are a limited number of river seats, with just 16 boats available.
You’ll need to collect your vessel from Little Venice (around the junction of the canal) and prices vary from £200-£250, depending on how many travellers are on board.
The boat fits eight in total, meaning you could end up forking out £31.25 per person, which is quite pricey – but then again, you’re on a private boat, so we’ll let that go.
Organisers have also placed deck chairs around the area as a cheaper option at £15.
The Openaire Float-in Cinema, as its known, will open on 2 September, with an exciting list of classics such as Titanic (well, obviously), Dirty Dancing, The Greatest Showman and (terrifyingly) Jaws.
Screening times vary, though most of the films appear to have a daytime and a nighttime showing.
