Six vibrators to see you through a sexless lockdown summer

Singletons across the UK saw their summer flings evaporate this morning, as the government announced it is now illegal to have sex with someone from a different household.

As if lockdown hasn’t taken enough from us, now it’s coming after our orgasms.

Jokes aside, it’s a safety measure put in place to protect people so do follow the rules – but, just because you can’t get freaky with someone else, it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun by yourself.

If you don’t have one, it’s time to invest in a vibrator to last you through the sexless summer that is 2020.

From the classic rabbit to clitoris-stimulating gadgets, and everything in-between, we round up some of the best sex toys on the market right now.

The Gyr8tor, Lovehoney, £99.99

It’s been described as sending one woman to ‘hula heaven’ – we’re not sure where that is, but if it’s as orgasmic as she said, we’d like to visit, please.

The Gyr8tor can be used by all sexes, and was created by the winner of Lovehoney’s Design A Sex Toy Competition. It’s made from silicone and can be used in water.

As the name suggests, the toy ‘dances and sways with gyroscopic motion’ with 12 settings for you to explore for 60 minutes (before you have to charge it again).

Top tip: take your masturbation up a notch by pairing it with a clitoral vibrator for a blended orgasm.

The Ballerina, Smile Makers, £160

If you find that toys which focus on the clitoris are too intense or even a tad painful, try this one instead.

The Ballerina, as it’s called, was designed to stimulate your entire vulva (the outer part of the female genitals) by sending pulsations from your clitorial glans to the labia and the opening to your vagina (the canal).

Similar to all the other sex toys on our list, this one can also be used in water.

The brand has also recently launched a sex education programme for people who want to learn about their vulva, vagina and all things sex.

Sona 2 Cruise, Lelo, £77

It looks a bit strange, but the toy has won several awards (Picture: Lelo)

Lelo is known for making high-end sex toys, but this also means they can be a tad on the expensive side.

So we’re particularly happy to announce that the Sona 2 Cruise, which was launched last year, is now on sale on the retail site Current Body (original price is £129).

This one is all about the clitoris, with SenSonic technology pulsations that increase the harder you press the toy against your body. Like the Gyr8tor, this one also has 12 settings.

It looks a bit peculiar, but don’t let that put you off; the vibrator has received several awards.

If it’s your first round with a sex toy, be gentle as the stimulation could get quite intense if you go straight for the clitoris – some people start by holding the toy right next to it, to adjust to the feeling.

Uma, Je Joue, £75

If simplicity and a sleek look is your jam, try the Uma.

The motor is claimed to give a ‘rumbling vibration’ feel with five speeds and seven patterns.

Uma’s design has been created to hit all the sweet spots, and you can use it as a clitoral stimulator or a penetrating toy.

Take it with you into the bath, if you fancy. Oh, and it’s 100% vegan.

AMO, Hot Octopuss, £49

Apparently, it gives ‘earth-shattering’ orgasms (Picture: Hot Octopuss)

The latest product from sex toy brand Hot Octopuss is the AMO – a bullet vibrator.

It looks a bit like a perfume bottle, but apparently it leads to ‘earth-shattering’ orgasms, according to one shopper.

The toy has a curved design, is made entirely from silicone, and is 100% waterproof with five settings for you to try.

It’s also super quiet – which means it’s perfect if you’re isolating with parents or nosy housemates.

The Cheeky One, Kandid, £45

How about exploring anal play while in lockdown?

Kandid, the sex toy company created by two men with an ethos to ‘break stigma around sex’, especially when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community, has released an anal vibrator for beginners.

It has a T-shape, is made from silicone and offers nine patterns. It’ll last for a long session too, up to 120 minutes when fully charged.

Ride the wave, people, ride the wave.

If none of these sex toys tickle your fancy, there’s plenty more to choose from out there, such as classic penetrative dildos.

To help you on your way, we reviewed seven rabbits a while back to find out which give the best orgasm.
