Although we’re getting more used to shopping in a socially distanced way, it means you usually have to queue to get in.
With most shops only letting a certain number of people in at one time, you have to wait outside until there is space.
So to help reduce queues for people who are just doing small shops, Morrisons is introducing Speedy Shopping.
The idea is to let customers doing small basket shops in and out, to cut down times for them and take them out of the queue of people doing ‘big shops’.
A new separate Speedy Shopping lane will be introduced outside of Morrisons stores.
Three Speedy Shopping customers will be invited in for every trolley shopper.
There will be signs and a marshal outside to help customers choose which queue they want to use.
Speedy Shopping customers will pick up a shopping basket at the entrance and ‘big shop’ customers will pick up a shopping trolley.
Inside Morrisons stores there will be dedicated Speedy Shopping checkouts – both colleague-operated and self-scan.
To increase the speed of payments for basket customers, more self-scan tills will be turned into ‘card only’.
If you’re not sure what to do when inside, there will be marshals available to explain which queue and tills are for Speedy Shopping.
David Potts, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: ‘It’s fair that customers doing smaller shopping trips should queue for less time too.
‘Speedy Shopping will ensure that Morrisons stores will be more convenient for customers wanting a small basket of items.’
