Another Saturday, another celebrity smoothie recipe.
Last week, we brought you news of Cindy Crawford’s breakfast smoothie, which she shared as part of her regular online ‘stay at home’ inspiration drops. But if her protein and Superelixir Greens mix sounded a bit too pretentious and expensive for you, how about trying Reese Witherspoon’s recipe instead?
Good old Reese dropped her morning smoothie recipe earlier this week and unlike Cindy’s was full of cheap and easily accessible ingredients.
She admits that once whisked together, the drink ‘looks like it tastes gross, but it tastes so good!’. Isn’t that always the way with healthy bevs? Reese also says that she drinks this mix instead of breakfast, encouraging viewers to add protein powder, almond butter or flaxseed to make it more filling. Of course, it’s up to you – some of us need hearty breakfasts so this might not touch the edges as a complete meal.
If you are using it as a substitute, however, packing it out with good fat, fibre and protein is going to help keep you full until lunchtime. You don’t necessarily need to add protein powder if you want to keep this wholefoods-based; almond butter contains 21g per 100g making it a good source of protein as well as monounsaturated fat (more so than peanut butter).
Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients:
- 2 heads romaine lettuce
- 1/2 cup spinache
- 1/2 cup coconut water
- 1 whole banana
- 1 whole pear
- 1 whole lemon
- celery (optional)
- almond butter (optional)
Method:
Blitz, drink, and according to Reese, dance. We can’t think of a better morning routine.
