During a sunny week in lockdown, there might be plenty of things you want to do. You could crack open a midday beer in the garden or lie out with a good book. Maybe you’d like to go for a quick jog around the houses or quickly nip out on your bike to the corner shop.
But not if you’re Kevin Webber.
Kevin has just run 143 miles… in his back garden. Yep, he’s run the entire six stages of the Marathon des Sables ultra-marathon over six days, without crossing over his front door.
It’s often described as the ‘toughest foot race on Earth’, trailing through the Sahara Desert in Southern Morocco.
Kevin was due to take part in his fifth consecutive year this month but coronavirus stopped him from getting out there.
Undeterred, Kevin simply decided to complete all six stages by running an incredible 2,734 laps of his back garden.
Today, he finished the final stage.
Kevin, who was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer just over five years ago, is raising funds for two charities: the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus appeal who will distribute the funds to where they are needed most in the UK, and Prostate Cancer UK.
He’s run thousands of miles over the past few years to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK. This year alone, he plans to run six ultramarathons having ended 2019 by running 60 miles over eight days.
‘One in eight men get prostate cancer in the UK and a man dies every 45 minutes so I hope like me you can see why it is so important to tame this disease as soon as we can so other men will not be where I am in years to come,’ Kevin says on his JustGiving page.
Every penny donated goes directly to the charities as Kevin pays his own expenses at every race.
Should you like to support Kevin on his incredible ultra challenges, you can do so via the JustGiving page.
