The coronavirus pandemic has radically changed the world of work.

People are questioning some of the high-paying jobs that now seem so trivial, essential workers are begging for assistance, and many are losing work and income.

For some fortunate people, the lockdown has simply meant they can work from home.

We’re exploring this way of working in our mini series, Where I Work, to look at the dreamy home offices and the makeshift desks that have become the norm.

Today we’re nosing around the setup of Sandra, 32.

Sandra works for Takeaway.com building a marketplace for the restaurants. She also has a passion for interiors, which she explores on her Instagram.

Here’s how she’s working in lockdown.

Hey, Sandra! Where are you working right now?

I used to work from home from time to time between my business meetings, but for now we are on 100% home office mode.

I live with my husband, Pawel, and my cat in Berlin.

My guest room is also my office.

I have my laptop from work and a big working desk so I can comfortably work from here or my airmchair. It is important is to have enough light and fresh air.

I like my green plant, my posters, and Instax from holiday.

Have you found working from home a challenge?

Actually I am very productive.

I try to stay focused and although I do have more breaks, there are days where I sit all day and forget to drink water or eat! That is important to not forget.

What’s a working day like for you?

I wake up at 7am, starting with coffee and enjoying fresh air on my terrace.

I do yoga for 20 minutes then eat breakfast, check my emails and get to work.I do some video calls and then have a second coffee.

I try to eat lunch on time and do all my hardest tasks in the morning, but sometimes it’s not possible.

I try to finish my work around 5pm and then go on a walk near my apartment.

What are your personal rules for working from home?

Prepare your day ahead, make a list of tasks to complete and work in blocks – if you feel tired take a break, go out in fresh air or make a good cup of tea.

What’s your advice for people new to working from home?

Do not work from bed and try to wear regular clothes – I also do my makeup since I feel I am at work and I have video calls.

Of course you can stay cosy in your sweatsuit, but try to stay focused as though you are still at work.
