Gruffalo author and illustrator create new stories to help kids understand coronavirus

Explaining coronavirus, lockdown and social-distancing to children can be hard.

It’s difficult enough for adults to understand and deal with everything, never mind kids.

Suddenly they aren’t going to school, trips outside are limited to once a day and it can be very scary.

To help The Gruffalo author Juila Donaldson and illustrator Alex Scheffler have reimagined some of their most famous characters with messages about what is currently going on.

Pictures include The Gruffalo social distancing, Charlie Cook staying at home, The Smartest Giant in Town washing his hands and the grandparents from The Smeds and the Smoos keeping in touch on the phone.

Julia and Alex have worked together since 1993 when they created A Squash and A Squeeze.

Since then, they published a whole range of books, with their most famous story, The Gruffalo, selling over 13 million copies worldwide.
