Everything is virtual now.
And for good reason, obviously, with a global coronavirus pandemic and all.
Chances are, being cooped up at home making you miss your social life terribly and making you regret all those brunches you passed on.
If you’re particularly nostalgic for the pub then you can join The Corona Arms – a virtual pub welcome to anybody.
Started by Emily Huyton, the pub ‘landlord’, The Corona Arms made its debut this week and held a pub quiz to get the punters going.
Because times are tough, the organisers decided to raise money too, in aid of St George’s Crypt, a Leeds-based charity that supports the homeless.
In case you haven’t guessed, there’s a bring-your-own-booze policy.
We caught up with landlady Emily who says a chance to socialise with strangers or just friends is so important right now as millions of Brits may be feeling lonely in the lockdown.
She tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Over the last week or so it’s certainly felt as though the world as we know it has been grinding to a halt. Living in London and unable to get back up north to see all my friends, I decided to set up a virtual pub so we could still all get together, have a drink, have a laugh and try and maintain some level of normality.
‘The Corona Arms was born with a small group of us but once we shared it on social we were inundated with people asking to join us too.’
The team that brought The Corona Arms together are all former colleagues from a marketing firm so selling the virtual pub to the public came naturally.
They have an official Instagram page for you to keep up to date with.
Emily added: ‘Bringing back together loads of creative talent, before we knew it we had a logo, social media pages and a top performer planning our first ever virtual pub quiz!
‘Whilst we have all managed to find a way to keep ourselves entertained, we recognise that so many people are really struggling during this time and so we wanted to use the opportunity to raise some money for a local charity.’
And the pub’s slogan is pretty catchy too: ‘Where everybody knows your name…and they’re always glad you STAYED INDOORS’.
You get the idea.
It’s open every evening and the details to join are on their social media page.
