Emma Allen was left in fits of giggles after ordering a mini felt replica of her Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Missy – and ended up getting one that looked ‘like it’s had a stroke’.
Emma, 40, spotted an artist’s online ad offering to make mini models of pets based on their photos, and was keen to get one made up of her beloved dog Missy.
While her partner Shirley McClean wasn’t looking, Emma excitedly placed her order, paying £30 plus £5 extra for a tiny black collar.
When the package arrived two weeks later, Emma burst out laughing. The mini model’s eyes were rolling upwards and in opposite directions.
Emma, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, said: ‘It looks like it’s had a stroke. It was hilarious.
‘That’s how it looked when it turned up in the post, I just burst out laughing.
‘I then got a message from the woman asking if it was alright. I thought, “I can’t be nasty or horrible”, so just said “yes, thank you”.
‘I just couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth, I felt sorry for her, I couldn’t ask for a refund.
‘My partner went mad but I couldn’t stop laughing. She kept saying “send it back, send it back” but I paid the money and because it’s that funny I’d rather keep it.
‘I’ve had to keep Missy away from it because she doesn’t like it, I’ve had to move it high up on the shelf because she keeps trying to attack it.
‘She knows it’s meant to be her, she must think “gosh, I’ve had a bad hair day”.’
The hairy lookalike is now a main topic of conversation whenever Emma and Shirley have friends and family around – with everybody laughing at mini Missy’s unfortunate look.
Emma said: ‘I saw them advertised online. It was just a woman from Devon that did them from home.
‘She said she could do me one for £30 or it was £5 extra if you wanted a collar on too.
‘It’s a great conversation starter. Everybody saw the funny side of it and it was that brilliant, I said “I’m keeping it”.
‘When people come over now it’s always the topic of conversation, all the kids want to play with it and everybody laughs when they see it.
‘I was going to get one of Bailey [our other dog] too, but when this one came, I didn’t want to spend another £35.’
