These black mums absolutely nailed the #DontRushChallenge

A new TikTok trend – called the #DontRushChallenge – sees influencers and social media stars transform from casual clothes to a full-face of makeup and killer outfit by dusting a makeup brush on the lens of the camera.

The brush pulls out to reveal the new look, and then the brush is tossed out of frame for the next person to catch it and give it a try.

But the mums from The Motherhood Group have taken the challenge to a whole new level, and are proving that women who have children can be still be sexy and have fun with their appearance.

And it is one of the best videos yet.

‘When you become a mother, many people assume you will completely lose yourself,’ says Sandra Igwe, the founder of The Motherhood Group, a platform of connection and support for black mums.

‘Even mothers believe that their true authentic self will fade in replacement of taking up a new role full of endless responsibilities, unlimited selflessness and home bound for the most part.’

Sandra asked the women in her group to take part in the #DontRushChallenge to subvert this assumption about motherhood and make people recognise that even as mothers, women still have autonomy and a sense of self.

The Motherhood Group wants to encourage mums that despite being a mum you can dress up, take part in activities and hobbies that once gave you joy, take time out for yourself, connect with others and still be a fantastic mother.’

Sandra says the video was also a fantastic way for her to connect and have fun with other mums, even during quarantine and social distancing. She says engaging with each other and finding things to make you smile are more important now than ever.

‘The #DONTRUSHCHALLENGE was the perfect opportunity to share this powerful message with not just black mums, but the world.’

‘This is just a reminder that although we are mothers, we should NEVER lose ourselves – even in quarantine, we can still be sexy,’ Sandra tweeted alongside the video.

The clip has already racked up thousands of likes and shares, with hundreds commenting with support for the hot mamas.

‘These women just made motherhood look more beautiful,’ said one.

‘I like this one. Y’all glowed up and frolicked the kids to one side,’ added another.

Some mums have cameos with their little ones in the opening frames of the videos, and others are just rocking it solo – but all of them look absolutely fire.
