Parents, we’re so sorry for the pain we’re about to inflict upon you.
But we promise it’s for a good cause.
Baby Shark – you know, that character responsible for getting ‘baby shark doo doo doo doo doo doo’ stuck in your head for the last few years – has stepped up to tackle the coronavirus pandemic the best way it knows how: through the art of an earworm song that children will love and parents will quickly despise.
The people and sharks over at Pinkfong! Kids’ Songs and Stories have unveiled a snazzy new edition of the classic Baby Shark song you know and love/wish you could erase from your memory, this time all about washing your hands.
In fact, they’ve created an entire Baby Shark Hand Wash Challenge, made up of a catchy tune, a bunch of dance moves, and a reminder to also sneeze in your elbow to stay safe.
Yes, from one listen your children will be singing this nonstop. Soon you will hate this song. But it really is a good thing – the video does a good job of showing you how to wash your hands properly (just look at the human pair rather than the shark fins, which don’t really emphasise the importance of getting every nook and cranny).
And you can sing the song while you scrub to make sure you’re washing your hands for the proper length of time – just in case you’re bored of doing Happy Birthday twice.
Then there’s the dance challenge, which may actually get your kids gleefully cheering ‘let’s stay healthy’ – which can only be a good thing, surely.
Before you get started trying to master this complex dance routine, it’s probably worth learning the words off by heart.
Here are the lyrics in full:
Lyrics to the #BabySharkHandWashChallenge song
Wash your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Wash your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Wash your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Wash your hands!
Grab some soap,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Grab some soap,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Grab some soap,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Grab some soap!
Rub your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Rub your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Rub your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Rub your hands!
Rinse your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Rinse your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Rinse your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Rinse your hands!
Dry your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Dry your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Dry your hands,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Dry your hands!
“What else can we do?”
Cover your sneeze,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Cover your sneeze,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Cover your sneeze,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Cover your sneeze,
Cough into your elbow,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Cough into your elbow,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Cough into your elbow,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Cough into your elbow!
Safe at last,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Safe at last,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Safe at last,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Safe at last!
Let’s stay healthy,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Let’s stay healthy,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Let’s stay healthy,
doo doo doo doo doo.
Let’s stay healthy!
