Of course there’s coronavirus nail art

They actually look pretty cool, no? (Picture: Instagram)

The coronavirus pandemic may be leading people to self-isolate, stockpile, and self-love, but it won’t stop them rocking high-concept beauty looks.

We’ve seen influencers sharing mask-friendly makeup and artists using eyeshadow palettes to send important messages about racism, so it should be no surprise that people are creating coronavirus-inspired nail art, too.

Take a look over on Instagram and you’ll find false nails decorated with 3D chemical makeups of COVID-19, nails wearing their own tiny coronavirus masks, and even art emblazoned with the word ‘coronavirus’ in fancy lettering.

Some of the designs are actually quite aesthetically pleasing, but they also serve to remind us of important health and hygiene guidelines we should all be following.

Biting your nails isn’t hygienic any time, but it’s an especially bad idea when we’re trying to slow the spread of disease. One expert even said that biting your nails is ‘the easiest way to catch coronavirus’.

If getting false nails or detailed designs stops you from chewing at your fingers, that can only be a good thing.

If you have long nails, make sure you’re giving them a scrub with a nail brush each time you wash your hands.

The undersides of our nails can hide all sorts of dirt and bacteria so make sure that amid all your thorough hand-scrubbing you get under your nails, too.

And if you can’t go without getting your nails done while the pandemic is still ongoing, just make sure the salon you’re visiting is being rigorous with their hygiene practices.

That means your practitioner should be wearing gloves, sanitising tools, and disinfecting surfaces between clients.

Feel free to decorate your nails with these reminders (perhaps in acronym form, as you’re working with limited space). If you’re getting a manicure, make sure it’s in quarantine theme.
