Greggs closed all their stores earlier this week, just before the UK went into lockdown due to the coronavirus crisis.
If you are missing their delicious baked goods, one woman has managed to cook up her own version of the sausage and bean melt – and the good news is that it costs just 37p.
Of course, we are being advised to only go to the supermarket when you need to but next time you are making a trip, it might be worth picking up some of the ingredients.
You can also make up a batch and freeze them, ready to reheat when you fancy a Greggs-style treat.
Lou Clair Lanham’s recipe went viral after she shared it on social media.
To make the pastries, she bought:
Puff pastry from Lidl – 89p
Half a tin of beans – 20p
Sprinkle of cheese
Iceland sausages – 30 for £3
Of course, you can buy the ingredients in different shops but it might make them slightly more expensive.
She laid out rectangles of the pastry, added a few spoonfuls of beans, a cooked sausage and a sprinkle of cheese.
She then filed over the pastry, cut some holes for the steam and baked them in an electric fan oven at 150C for 30-35 minutes.
She said that you can also make something like the chicken bakes using the cans of chicken in white sauce.
The post has hundreds of likes and comments with people keen to try them at home.
One said: ‘Definitely making these, my grandchildren will love them.’
Another added: ‘Thank you for a great idea. These look delicious.’
