Man becomes unofficial Jaffa Cake eating after scoffing down 36 in three minutes

How many Jaffa Cakes could you could eat in one sitting?

For Stu Hayler, the answer is 36.

But the 39-year-old didn’t just scoff through the lot while binge-watching on a Netflix show, like the rest of us.

Stu had a mission: to hold a record for the most Jaffa Cakes eaten in the shortest amount of time.

And he managed a whopping 36 in just three minutes. Impressive.

Stu chomped through the impressive haul to take the title at a competition held by the British Eating League.

Five contestants gathered at The George Pub & Grill in Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham on Friday to take part in the inaugural event.

Some entrants travelled for nearly two hours to get to the contest, arriving from as far away as Derbyshire and Yorkshire.

Local lad Stu walked away with a cash prize after getting through one Jaffa Cake every five seconds.

The next heat will see contestants attempt to eat a chocolate fudge cake as quickly as possible.

‘I’m absolutely over the moon to launch the British Eating League after creating some of the world’s biggest dishes here at the pub,’ said organiser Craig Harker.

‘Eating is a sport and I’m proud to chair both the Eating League and Ultimate Eating Championship to bring competitive eating to venues all across the country.

‘Every event is overseen by the UK Competitive Eating Organisation which supports with safety planning, rules and guidance to ensure every event is safe for all.

How many could you do?

‘I cant wait for the next contest in March when each person is challenged to eat a whole double chocolate fudge cake to themselves.’

(Basically our Saturday nights).

The events are open to over-16s only and we can’t wait to see what the record for the next one will be.

In case you’re wondering, Stu didn’t beat the world record for the most number of Jaffa Cakes eaten.

That glorious Guinness World Record title belongs to someone known as Furious Pete, who ate an impressive 17 in one minute (by comparison, Stu could only do 12 a minute – better luck next time, bud).

If you are going to try and best Stu’s (or Pete’s) score, we strongly advise that you don’t attempt to beat it multiple times in one day.
