We’re having to be creative when it comes to recreating our favourite foods under the Covid-19 lockdown.
Now that we can no longer pop to Starbucks and Pret for our usual bevvies, iced coffee-loving TikTokkers have found a clever way of making the popular drink at home.
The formula has been doing the rounds on the video-sharing app where users claim it’s just like the real thing, as in store-bought, while others say it tastes rank.
So I tried it out at home (where else?) to see if it’s worth the faff.
Because resources are scarce, I sacrificed the last bit of my milk so you don’t have to experiment, in case this DIY drink actually tastes horrible.
I’m happy to report it is actually quite a refreshing and tasty treat that you should try for yourself.
All you need to make your own is all your normal caffeine essentials; instant coffee, sugar, hot water, milk and ice.
Although it’s custom to share a strict recipe and instructions when making something, many TikTokkers just winged it and added however much of each ingredient they think is normal to include in an iced coffee.
After watching a few videos, I too decided to throw in however much I wanted and it turned out pretty good.
So, begin by adding one tablespoon of boiling water to a tablespoon of instant coffee and granulated sugar.
Now mix it together and start whisking until it turns into a Nutella-like consistency.

TikTokkers did recommend two tablespoons of sugar but because I’m a thousand years old and don’t have the same penchant for sweetness, I added just one.
While that’s being whisked, add however much ice you want in a separate cup or glass and however much milk you’d like (again, the TikTokkers don’t care for measurements).
Once the consistency is smooth and a light brown colour, scoop it into the iced milk and mix together until it’s all one creamy brown liquid.
Of course, you can make it vegan if you like by adding soy milk or other alternatives.
You can add a creamer too or honey or any other condiments you think might go well with it.
Take a sip and tell us what you think.
