Coronavirus lockdown UK: How to get wine and beer delivered to your door

Lockdown does mean staying indoors and only leaving for necessities like food, medicine, and one form of exercise per day.

What it doesn’t mean, is living like an ascetic and staring blankly at a wall for three weeks in hope that your stillness and focus will rid us of coronavirus for good.

In Japan, people started the trend on-nomi, which translates into English as ‘drinking indoors’ and saw people saying cheers over apps like Houseparty and Zoom.

And given that Britain is known for liking a tipple, it’s likely that we’ll find our own spin on this as the weeks in the house go by.

It’s worth noting that if you have a weakened immune system or have shown any symptoms at all, it’s not advisable to drink, and it’s also never a good idea to drink heavily or binge.

Plus, while health bosses have said it’s fine to buy alcohol and non-necessities as part of your main shop, it’d be pretty frowned upon to head to the off licence for a carry-out in the midst of everything that’s going on (and it could land you with a fine).

So, drink in moderation if you’re going to, and get it delivered to your house where possible. Here are some ways to get beer and wine right to your door during lockdown.

Majestic Wines

Majestic has seen a massive amount of demand, so are no longer taking orders online. However, it’s worth finding your local store and calling to see if they’re doing home deliveries.

If you buy a case of six, bottles can come in at as low as around a fiver each, and you can sort between your tastes and preferences to find the perfect wines for your dish.

Vinatis

The online wine store Vinatis are still delivering, although they say processing may be up to 72 hours due to demand.

Top of the list from Vinatis are the boxes of hand-picked bottles, so you can sample award-winning tipples for a lower price than buying by the bottle. If you can’t go to the pub, you might as well drink the good stuff.

Signature Brew

Signature Brew are bringing the bar to you with their newly-launched pub-in-a-box service.

Not only will you get a selection of their award-winning beers, you’ll get glassware, snacks, beer mats, a music quiz, and exclusive playlists curated by music journalists to accompany the beers themselves.

Prices start at £25.

MyWineCellar

MyWineCellar have everything you need when it comes to wine, whether that’s a vegan vino or a bit of the bubbly.

There’s also an offer on right now where if you buy 12 bottles you get 10% off. Just don’t drink them all at once.

Beer Hawk

For craft beer fans, Beer Hawk is the place to be to get your favourites delivered to your door.

Like many of the wine sites, they offer mixed boxes so you can try something new, but you can also browse by type and where they’re from.

While the site does offer next day delivery, they’re telling customers to be aware it may take slightly longer for your order to arrive.

Bevy

This service is only available in London zone 1 and 2, but Bevy is as reliable and quick as it comes.

Simply download the app, choose what you want, and have it delivered in less than 45 minutes by their ‘Bevy butlers’.

They service restaurants across the city, but aren’t extortionate, with drinks coming in at near enough the same as you’d pay at the supermarket.

Elicite

One of the most unique features of the Elicite website is the ‘knowledge’ section, where you can watch wine tutorials as you sip.

Given how many people have taken up new hobbies in light of the COVID-19 lockdown, it might be fun to come out of the back end something of a sommelier.

In terms of delivery, you can also get boxes to your door in just a day depending on where you are in the UK.

Aldi

You really can’t go wrong with Aldi’s wine and spirit selection, and they announced yesterday that they’re still delivering, although it may take a bit longer than usual.

Naysayers of the budget retailer will be surprised to see what a great selection they have, whether it’s organic champagne, fine English wine, or delicately flavoured gin liqueurs.

Uber Eats or Deliveroo

Whether you have an alcohol delivery service available to you will depend on your location, but many local stores are currently offering the ability to order tipples and groceries and have them delivered in minutes.

Simply open your app, and you’ll see an ‘alcohol’ tab where you can browse through the options in your area.
