Self-isolation is getting saucy – in some homes.
One of the unexpected benefits of living with your partner is that if a global health crisis suddenly hits and you’re asked to stay indoors, you’ve got plenty of time to have sex.
Huh, who knew.
And since many of us are now working from home, there are also daily opportunities for midday masturbation sessions, if you’re single (manager, if you are reading this, I am behaving – I promise).
To find out how coronavirus is affecting people’s sex lives, we asked strangers to share their stories with us.
From random blowjobs on the sofa to not having sex at all because they’re self-isolating with family, here’s what they told us.
Elise*, 30
We are having a lot of fun. It’s almost like being stuck together has ramped up our attraction for each other.
We’re doing it much more frequently and with much more intensity/urgency.
We’ve started banging in different rooms to mix it up a bit. I gave him a blowjob on the rug in the living room the other day, just because why not? We also f***ed in the shower – which somehow we haven’t done before despite living together for two years. It seems like this global crisis has helped us reassess what’s important.
Shagging.
Gary, 38
I had to move back home after graduating university and while looking for a full time job, so I can live in a flat.
Because of Covid-19 and still being single, which I don’t like, I masturbate when I can to YouPorn or RedTube when I know my parents can’t easily hear. I do it at least three times a week to porn, but ideally I’d rather be in a long-term stable relationship with a girl.
At least orgasms pass the time, but is unfulfilling compared to being in a physical relationship.
Phoenix*, 27
Corona boner is a thing. As in – I’m strangely horny as f***.
Keep having sex dreams and then having to get the toys out. Obviously, I’m single and isolating so not getting any action, but my mind seems to want it more than ever.
Also I called a guy on Saturday night and it went from a casual chat about work to talking sexual and things he wanted to do to me when coronavirus is over. I think it’s making everyone sexual.
Bea*, 25
Sadly, self-isolation has pretty much ruined my sex life.
My boyfriend lives in central London (I’m in the suburbs) and he’s currently self-isolating. With government advice to stay home, I have no idea when I’ll be able to see him – whether it’ll be weeks or months.
I’m also living at home at the moment, so it’s not like I can whip out my vibrator without my whole family hearing.
Bethany*, 23
So I am thinking, self-isolation and all that, why don’t I self-isolate and try to have sex with my roommate?
This might be a no-go, but I am purposely leaving my door open while I use my toys so he knows. Maybe he will react and say something.
He has already suggested getting really drunk. I’m hoping we do the deed before week four comes around.
Harry*, 31
We are trying fora baby but before coronavirus we weren’t having enough sex.
As we are both self-isolating, we are able to find time at night to go to bed earlier and spend quality time together. Previously due to commuting and the lateness of getting home, a fortnightly five-minute, half asleep missionary was the goal in line with her ovulation.
But the situation has rearranged our priorities so we are doing it ‘properly’ now – as in timing it, doing it regularly, taking the right vitamins but also actually enjoying and appreciating each other more because as we’re in isolation.
We’re all each other have and it’s reminded us of how in love we are.
Also to add, we’re finding it’s a much better way of getting to sleep. But I still insist on separate duvets after a post-coital cuddle.
Farren*, 27
We’re gone from a pretty healthy sex life of a couple of times a week to, well nothing.
I’m quarantining away from London due to underlying health conditions and he has to stay. The longest we’ve been apart in two years is nine days, so this does feel weird.
Obviously we can sext etc. but I’m now staying in my parents’ house and it’s a little more difficult. I think it will get to us more as time goes on but right now, it’s not the sex I am missing the most, but rather just hanging out together and having a cuddle.
Sally*, 26
Well when we were at our flat, we’d clock off after work and have sex.
But we’ve just come back to his parents, along with his other siblings, and it’s a full house.
I don’t think there will be as many opportunities to sneak off or to have the privacy needed to have sex on the regular.
I’ve recently changed from the pill to the coil and that has boosted my libido a bit.
Also because we’re both at home and not going out in the evening it’s the thing we do first after we finish work, instead of before bed when you can get too tired or whatever.
Ben*, 28
My husband and I temporarily moved in with his mother because of coronavirus and our sex life has suffered.
He doesn’t like doing anything while in the same house because his mum’s bedroom is right upstairs from ours.
It’s gonna be a long, dry self-isolation for us unfortunately.
Denny*, 40
At the moment, our sex life is none-existent due to a 22-year-old step daughter returning to the fold to isolate with us.
Glad to have her around and needs must at this time, but I also have needs that are far from being fulfilled at present.
Our local shop is a three to five-minute round trip so can’t even send her to the shops to give us a little time.
I’m thinking Bose noise-cancelling head phones as a treat for her.
Chantry*, 31
I bought a sex toy the other day.
Harmony were having a sale, so I got the Womanizer because I’d read about it and it had good reviews, but I haven’t had a chance to use it yet.
I did go on three dates with someone right before this all happened and he’s now really sick (luckily I haven’t kissed him in over 14 days so I think he got it after we last saw each other).
Self-isolation hasn’t made me hornier… yet.
But I reckon we will all (singles at least) have to adopt to FaceTime sex if we’re locked in for ages.
