You definitely shouldn’t let your dog drink wine

The Love Is Blind finale has finally been released unto the world and for that we are forever grateful.

But while we’re glad to find out who actually said ‘I do’, there’s one moment from the show that we still can’t stop thinking about.

And no, it’s not Cameron rapping in front of Lauren’s mum.

We are, of course, talking about the incredible moment Jessica Batten lets her dog drink from her wine glass, saying ‘she loves wine’ as she does this.

Jessica has since said that this isn’t something she does regularly and doesn’t even remember letting Labrador Peyton take a lick of her red wine.

But the wild moment raises an important question: Is it okay to let your dogs have wine?

The answer, as you’ve probably guessed, is no, you definitely should not give your dog’s their own glass of merlot.

Not only could just a small bit of wine cause a nasty case of diarrhoea in your dog, it could even prove fatal.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home advises: ‘Alcohol has a huge impact on dogs even in small doses.

‘The drink not only causes intoxication as it does in humans, but it can lead to sickness, diarrhoea and even central nervous system damage.’

Head Vet Shaun Opperman warns that all alcohol should be kept far away from your pets.

Shaun tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Alcohol should always be kept away from your pets as even the smallest amount can have an impact on their wellbeing.

‘Not only does it cause intoxication, as it does in humans, it can also lead to sickness, diarrhoea and nerve damage.

‘If enough alcohol was consumed, it could prove fatal.

‘If you ever suspect your pet has come in to contact with alcohol or any other harmful substance, you should always contact a vet for advice.’

Dog’s livers aren’t built to process alcohol, so while they might not immediately show signs of distress when sipping on booze, it could cause extreme harm.

Giving a dog wine is an especially bad idea as wine is made using grapes… which are toxic to dogs.

Even if nothing seriously bad happens, giving your dog alcohol will also get them drunk. They won’t understand this, so will be terrified to suddenly feel unwell and disorientated.

In short: Don’t share wine with your dog and avoid leaving a glass of red out where your pooch can reach it. It may seem like a load of lols to see your dog sipping on rosĂ©, but you won’t be laughing when your dog is seriously ill.
