If you watched the Jim Henson show Fraggle Rock, you’ll recognise St Anthony’s Lighthouse in St Mawes.
It featured in the opening credits of the 80s puppet show, with the Cornwall landscape around it being introduced as the home of the Fraggles, Doozers, and Gorgs, before the camera zoomed into the window to start the episode.
The popular children’s programme is now over, running from 1983 to 1987. However, you can still live out your nostalgia by staying in the lighthouse.
Located near Falmouth in Cornwall, the lighthouse houses Sally Port Cottage, which is open for rent – and for an incredible price.
Sleeping four, you can stay in the Sally Port Cottage for less than £35 per person per night, based on the average price of £928 for a 7 night stay.
It’s not just a hit of childhood reminiscence you’ll get when you stay. The beautifully finished holiday home has a gorgeous observation room where you can watch the sea for hours on end and a sun-trap patio.
It’s completely secluded for those who want to get away from it all, reachable via a 300 metre path from the cliffs above.
That said, if you want something a bit less reflective, you’re not far from the restaurants of Padstow (including Rick Stein’s iconic seafood restaurants), the Tate at St. Ives, or the Eden Project.
Fraggle Rock superfans can also have a wander around St Mawes where the property is situated, and notice some of the scenery that was featured in the hit show.
There is a disclaimer on the website that this is still an operational lighthouse, which means there might be loud noises coming from fog signals. But earplugs will be provided to guests, and isn’t that part of the fun of it all?
If you’d like to book yourself in to Sally Port Cottage, you can do so via Host Unusual, who have all sorts of weird and wonderful properties from around the world.
