Rejected cat Monique is looking for a home after no one turned up to her birthday party

No one should have to spend their birthday alone.

But that’s the fate that befell sweet cat Monique, who’s still looking for a loving home after no one showed up at her birthday party.

Monique is a two-year-old moggy who has been at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home for more than 115 days.

After she passed her 100th day in the shelter with no one applying to adopt her, staff decided to throw her a party for her birthday, on Valentine’s Day, to build up some hype and find her the loving family she deserves.

Staff at the shelter decorated Monique’s pen, gave her special toys, and shared news of the celebration online in the hopes of drumming up interest.

But it didn’t work. No one showed up to Monique’s party or showed any interest in taking her home.

Monique now continues to wait at the shelter, hoping that someone will come in, see how special she is, and take her home.

Anyone else’s heart breaking for this cat?

It’s thought that the lack of interest in Monique is down to the fact she is living with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV+).

While Monique will most likely live a long and healthy life like any other cat, her condition does mean her new owners will need to ‘cat proof’ their garden to ensure Monique can explore outdoors and enjoy some fresh air, without coming in to contact with other cats and potentially spreading the virus.

Battersea’s Cattery Team Leader, Chrissie Grindrod, said: ‘It’s always a shame to see one of our cats be repeatedly overlooked, especially one so young and with so much to offer as a pet.

‘Monique is a gentle soul who thrives with human company, whether that be playing with her favourite toys together or curling up side by side on the sofa.

‘She also won’t ever say no to a chin rub or two.

‘Her birthday and Valentine’s Day may now have passed, but it’s not too late to give Monique her dream gift of a lovely new home.’

Monique would make a lovely pal. She sweet, playful, and loves to snuggle and snooze on people’s laps.

She especially loves chin rubs, and will let you know you’re doing a good job by purring away like a motor.

‘We would encourage any potential owners to get in touch regardless of what they do or don’t know already know about FIV, and whether or not their garden is currently cat proof,’ Chrissie says.

‘Our team are always on hand to answer any questions and offer advice including the simple steps required to secure a garden for a FIV+ pet to enjoy.

‘Monique is a wonderful cat who deserves loving owners willing to go the extra mile for her, we assure you she’s worth it.’

If you’re a lovely person who’s up for giving Monique all the love and care she deserves, you can get in touch with Battersea through their website.
