Those who aren’t lovers of sweet treats will know how disappointing it is to be presented with cakes and sweets as favours at every wedding.
While a wedding cake is a lovely centrepiece, it just doesn’t hit the spot for those who need something more savoury to satisfy them.
One couple instead opted for a tower of doughballs in lieu of a cake, provided by Pizza Express.
If you want to go even wilder, Tot Aw might be the company for you to choose to cater your wedding, with their reimagined desserts made from Mi Goreng.
Using Indomie noodles, the company (whose name stands for Totally Awesome) creates towering tiered cakes that look just as good as the real thing – alongside a menu of traditional Indonesian food with a twist.
The ‘bakery’, based in Jakarta, Indonesia, specialise in the cakes, which they make for birthdays and other occasions as well as weddings.
One of the owners of the company originally had a doughnut shop, and was constantly looking for alternatives to the traditional recipe, before settling on noodle-based confectionery.
This specific idea has a very sweet backstory and was inspired by when their mums would fill up their lunch boxes with Indomie, with it almost moulding itself to the box creating a cake-like shape.
There are various toppings you can choose from, and the standard two-tiered cake – which has been dubbed the TOT cake – uses up to 17 packs of instant noodles.
‘The first [topping] is taken from our spicy rice menu, such as shredded chicken, salted cuttlefish and meatballs,’ the café’s co-owner and chef, Erwin, told The Jakarta Post.
‘The second topping is beef cornet and melted cheese.’
It’s pretty great value considering it feeds eight to ten people, and costs Rp 140,000 (£7.80).
If you were to go for a wedding-sized version costs would likely be higher, but this is understandable given it’d feed more people and be covered in decorative bits to make it nuptials-appropriate.
The main problem is that you’d have to be based near Jakarta to have the cake delivered to your big day.
Although you could make one yourself, it probably wouldn’t be as perfectly formed as these ones are. Our bowls of instant noodles at home have got nothing on these masterpieces.
