Hardcore Harry Potter fans can be a little bit intense with their love for the wizarding world, but this mum has taken it to the next level.

True Potter stan, Kylie Lyons turned walls, furniture and doors into a homage to her favourite book – using a £1 copy of Harry Potter that she bought in a car boot sale.

And lovers of the series who want to replicate this look will be pleased to know she says it was an incredibly simple and affordable process.

The mum-of-two from Darlington, wanted to liven up different surfaces in her home, whilst also proudly displaying her love for the teenage wizard. And she’s really pleased with the results.

‘I collect old Harry Potter books, mainly from car boot sales and charity shops for cheap and didn’t have anything I could use them for,’ Kylie told LatestDeals.co.uk.

‘I had seen people use them for different crafts and I wanted to make my own.’

The 27-year-old had spotted some Harry Potter wallpaper that she was a fan of and realised that pages of her old books could create a similar effect. So she selected a copy that cost her just £1 and got to work.

‘I first tried it out on my door because it was so boring I wanted to liven it up a bit. The door worked out great so I knew I could apply it to almost anything and get a good look,’ she explains.

‘Initially, I did this to my bedroom door and then a wall, and then I decided that I didn’t like the look of my old chest of drawers so I just decided to give it a go.

Kylie says that all she needed was PVA glue, varnish and a brush, as well as a copy of the book that you don’t mind sacrificing.

‘Honestly, it’s really easy,’ she explains. ‘All you need is the item you want to Potter-fy, PVA glue, a paintbrush or just a normal sponge, and varnish to seal it.’

Kylie’s favourite piece is the chest of drawers – she says she also bought new handles from B&Q that cost her £24.

‘They are all pewter effect, which I think goes well with the Harry Potter theme,’ she says. ‘The PVA glue was £3.99 from B&M and I already have a massive tin of varnish that I use.’

For anyone who would have no idea where to start, Kylie kindly laid out a quick guide on how to create the magical look.

‘Put a thin layer of PVA on the item, place the page how you want it, then just go over the page with some more PVA,’ she says.

‘Don’t worry if it bubbles – just get as many as you can out and the rest will go as the paper dries.

‘Once it’s dried, just go over that with a layer or two of varnish with either a brush or a sponge.’

Kylie says she is over the moon with how the transformation ended up.

‘I’m so happy how they all turned out,’ she adds. ‘It’s such a simple process but adds so much life to the piece!’
