Leap year baby Ali Bone is either 10 or 40, depending on how you look at it.
Born on February 29, 1980, she was one of six leap year babies who came in to the world on this special day at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Hants.
Due to the uniqueness of the date, which only comes about once every four years, a photograph was taken of the proud mums with their babies, all of whom are turning 40 today.
Ali has now made it her mission to recreate this touching four-decade-old hospital photo featuring the five other children, and wants them to get in touch.
The original image was published in the Basingstoke Gazette on Thursday, March 6, 1980.
Pictured was:
- Noreen Whitaker, aged 29 at the time, of Bramley, Hants, with baby Simon David
- Andrea Skeen, aged 28, of Kingsclere, Hants, with her little one Catherine,
- Gillian Fifield, aged 35 of Pamber Heath, Hants, with Lydia Josephine,
- Sue Hornbrook, aged 21 of Buckskin, Hants, with Peter Jamie
- Gill Gurney, aged 26 of Alton, Hants, with her daughter whose name was yet to be decided.
If you think you or someone you know was in the photograph, you can get in touch with the Basingstoke Gazette at newsdesk@basingstokegazette.co.uk or call 01256207409.
Mother-of-two Mrs Bone, from Hook, Hants, said she was ‘glad’ her children were born on ‘ordinary’ days of the year.
She said: ‘It sounds funny but birthdays don’t feel the same or even proper when I celebrate it on February 28.
‘It does make you feel quite special being born on a leap year but it can also be quite confusing.
‘There’s the dilemma of when to actually celebrate your birthday – the day before or into the new month?’
