The spread of coronavirus is causing mass panic, changes to travel plans, and school shutdowns, but never fear: influencers and makeup artists are here to help with your biggest corona-related concern.
All over YouTube and Instagram, talented beauty influencers are sharing tutorials for creating makeup looks that pair perfectly with a coronavirus face mask.
Yes, that’s despite repeated claims that face masks are ‘useless’ and won’t properly protect you from the virus.
One YouTuber, Monkey Sis, created a video titled ‘Maskproof Drugstore Makeup Routine’, in which she guides viewers to use longwear products – including liquid lipstick – to avoid makeup transferring on to their masks.
Another, Lorraine_miaol, tested out six longwear foundations, writing in the video’s description: ‘My home country is going through a deadly coronavirus outbreak, this video is dedicated to all the people out there in need of an intact makeup with mask on. Stay healthy, stay strong! Pray for China’.
Over on Instagram the majority of the coronavirus looks focus on statement eye makeup, as masks cover up the lower half of your face (although that doesn’t stop most of these tutorials including lipstick).
Worryingly, a lot of the finished designs shared show people with loosely applied masks with gaping at the sides, which will only reduce the extremely limited protection these masks might provide.
If you are determined to wear the masks to soothe your coronavirus worries (again, that’s with the knowledge that they really don’t do much to protect you from picking it up), the good news is that there’s plenty of inspiration out there to make sure your maskproof makeup looks on point.
Let’s take a look.
Try a simple shimmery eye
Match your mask to your liner
Go all out with glitter
You really want to go heavy on the eyes
You know, as it’s the main thing people can see
Lipstick is a strange choice, but whatever makes you happy
Times may be terrifying, but at least you look fly
Rocking it.
