When Abbey Lockard spotted Chesterfield sofa being offered for free on Facebook, she snapped it up.
But the sofa was looking a little worse for wear and it didn’t go with her colour scheme.
So the savvy Abbey decided to use paint to transform the piece of furniture.
The whole project cost just £30 and the results are amazing.
Posting on DIY On A Budget Official, Abbey said she bought the grey leather paint and some matte leather paint sealer for £15 each on eBay.
She added: ‘First time trying this and so pleased how it turned out.
‘I loved the original colour but it didn’t go with the colour scheme in our new place and it needed sorting out anyway due to wear and tear.’
Abbey went on to explain that she scrubbed the whole thing down with rubbing alcohol and a cloth to remove any oils or treatments on the leather.
She said: ‘This step is sooooo important, id do this a couple of times and put the alcohol in a spray bottle to get wide coverage, if you don’t do this step we’ll you will notice after where paint doesn’t stay.’
She used a paintbrush for any holes or creases and then a mini roller over flat bits.
After waiting a day for the paint to dry, she applied the sealer with a microfibre cloth and dried it with a hairdryer.
She then added a second coat, dried again and applied a third before leaving to dry for a few days.
Abbey added: ‘That’s literally it, I’ve had two dogs on it for 2 days now with claws haha and no scratches yet so we will see.’
People on the group were really impressed with her transformation with over 14,000 likes and 2,000 comments.
One person said: ‘It looks brand new!’
Another added: ‘Looks amazing! the new colour and matte sealant looks soooo expensive.’
