Sainsbury’s has launched a new period pant range which offers an eco-friendly alternative to tampons and sanitary towels.
The new collection, titled Love Luna, is part of the supermarket’s TU range.
It features briefs designed with four layers, which can absorb up to 15 ml of blood – roughly the equivalent of three full tampons’ worth of liquid.
For those who might need a more absorbent product, there’s also the Lady Leaks range – which can hold up to 30-40 ml of blood.
In terms of design, the briefs feature a soft cotton lining – a breathable fabric that helps to prevent yeast infections.
Underneath there’s absorbent padding, a waterproof later and a second cotton outer layer.
What’s more, all the underwear features antibacterial and anti-odour protection.
It seems Sainsbury’s has got all bases covered.
Prices start from £10 and the products come in a variety of styles – such as fuller knickers, no VPL workout pants, bikini, mini and maternity knickers. They’re available in sizes 8-16.
The brand also claims the pants should last for at least 50 washes and are wearable for up to 24 hours at a time.
This longevity is pretty great in terms of eco-friendliness – just think of how many boxes of tampons you’ll save.
If we break it down – a tampon is supposed to be changed every four to eight hours. So let’s say a woman changes it every six hours, she’ll use four tampons a day – or perhaps a whole box for one cycle – which often cost around £3-4.
This means there are significant sustainable and cost-effective benefits to the knickers.
Sainsbury’s also advises that the products are hand-washed to help them last longer.
