Little girl learns martial arts after bully tries to lick her mouth

A little girl who used her words to show she did not consent to the advances of a little boy had to take matters into her own hands.

Little Luna from Portland, Oregon, was taught by her mum Margaux Dawn to say things like ‘stop’ and ‘do not touch me’ when a classmate kept harassing her.

On the first day of school, Luna came home to tell her parents about a boy who kept following her around.

So the mum and daughter practised using verbal signs to tell the boy to stop. The school was also alerted to watch out for his behaviour.

Margaux advised Luna to tell him to stop without saying please ‘because this was a command, not a request’.

A few days later Margaux was called by the school principal to tell her about an accident at the school.

Margaux took to Facebook to explain what happened, saying: ‘The same little boy had cornered Luna, pinned her to the ground with his knees planted on her chest, and forced her mouth open so he could lick inside her mouth while she screamed and cried for him to stop.

‘A school employee eventually pulled him off of her.  She was terrified. I was livid.’

Since the incident, Luna had lost confidence and became timid so Margaux enlisted the youngster at a martial arts class at Unicorn Jiu-Jitsu – the only woman-led black belt jiu-jitsu school in the state.

When another student tried to bully her out of the playground, Luna was able to put her newfound skills to the test.

‘After only four days of school my confident, bubbly little beansprout was suddenly nervous and unsure of herself,’ Margaux continued on Facebook.

‘My daughter timidly told me that she was “worried because she can’t stop bad things from happening to her”.

‘The school acted swiftly and responsibly to handle the situation, but the spark had gone out from Luna’s eyes — her confidence in her ability to maintain her own safety was torn to shreds.

‘[We] spoke at length about the feeling of helplessness, and my heart broke emptily in my chest as we together untangled the misplaced sense embarrassment and weakness.’

Luna then began her classes, twice a week for the past few months.

The lessons resulted in Luna getting her confidence back. Margaux added: ‘Luna beamed radiantly at me and firmly said: “No one is going to touch me like that ever again.”

‘I cried. Big, ugly tears. Baby, you’re damn right they won’t….And they didn’t.’

And when an older and bigger student decided to push Luna off a play structure, Luna used her self-defence lessons.

Luna used his own weight to put pin him down.

She put a knee into his chest until he was flat on his back, and then pressed her shin against his neck until he began sputtering and released her. At that point, she backed quickly away.

Teachers told Luna she wasn’t in trouble and quickly alerted Margaux of the whole thing she was proud of her little one.

Since posting the status though, Margaux added an update saying she won’t condone abuse towards the bully.

‘Please exercise empathy,’ she urged.

‘Please understand that there are unseen struggles in everyone’s life, and the kind of struggle that would make a child act in this way are horrific enough without adult strangers wishing harm upon him.’
