Katrina Hendrix, 28, like many other women, found it a bit of an inconvenience to have to wax and shave her body hair.
So after eight years of constant hair removal, Katrina, from Saint Petersburg, Russia, decided to give it all up.
The online entertainer hasn’t got rid of the air on her underarms, genitals, and legs for seven years now.
Despite her mum branding it ‘disgusting’, Katrina decided to ignore the protests and just went on to never get rid.
We can only imagine how much time and money she saved.
And even on her wedding day, Katrina hasn’t let the online ridicule she gets coerce her into shaving.
Wearing a boob-tube wedding gown, Katrina proudly showed off her armpit fuzz. Even though her husband isn’t a total fan of the au natural look, he supports her decision.
‘Yes, I was hairy on my wedding day, but it was not noticeable.’ she explained.
‘I did not raise my hands or something like that; I do not like excessive attention, and I made sure that attention was attracted to the wedding, and not to my body hair.
‘This is actually not about body hair; it’s about choice. This is about the opportunity to be whoever you want, to look like you want, not to hide your feelings and point of view.’
Katrina explained that her hair grew very fast and she had to shave every day. When I stopped shaving, the hardest part was trying to explain her position to her family and friends.
‘My mum said that I look disgusting. That was the worst part; hearing such words from a loved one was like a bullet in the heart.
‘Now she supports me and says not to listen to anyone but myself. Of course, she is still not a fan of hair on a female body, but this will not shock her anymore.’
She said the process to be natural was unpleasant at first but she did it in stages.
‘First, I let go of the hair on my vulva, then my armpits and only then my legs. I did not immediately let my hair grow freely, for a while I still shaved my armpits or legs sometimes, because I was shy. But overall, in a couple of months I turned into an obviously hairy woman.’
In her time as an entertainer, Katrina has been dubbed ‘a crazy feminist’, an ‘ugly freak’, but eventually, she learned to ignore the hate.
She also found that men were accepting of her hair than women were
‘It looks like it’s more acceptable for men than for women. I realised that if a man wants to be intimate with you, then body hair is the last thing he thinks about.’
Katrina also noted the different attitudes people have towards men who choose to shave and women who choose not to.
She found that if a man was hairless, people assumed it was because of a job, activities like swimming, or tattoos or just personal choice.
And when a woman made the choice to not shave, she was mocked for it.
Regardless, Katrina’s confidence has continued to grow.
She added: ‘I feel free. I feel like I no longer depend on the opinions of others. I want to destroy these old beauty standards.
‘Women can control their bodies and if she does not want to shave it is absolutely normal.’
