This is the untouched, unspoilt Caribbean paradise you have been searching for

Tobago is paradise on earth

It’s cold, it’s dark and it’s wet.

So what better time to start planning a trip to somewhere that’s warm and bathed in sunlight?

If, like us, you’ve been searching for the perfect winter escape then no doubt you’ll have considered the Caribbean.

But if you want a destination that’s untouched and unspoilt, there’s only one island that should be at the top of your bucket list; Tobago.

This hidden gem lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea and will provide an idyllic setting for your much needed getaway.

From its climate to its beaches, there are 101 reasons why you should visit Tobago. But here are just a few…

The adventure of a lifetime

With the oldest protected rainforest in the Western hemisphere, Tobago is the perfect place to seek out an adventure in the wild.

Hike Tobago

Hike into Tobago’s breathtaking rainforest

Get out into the landscape and really immerse yourself in the natural wonders of this island. There are plenty of hiking trails throughout the UNESCO Listed Main Ridge Forest Reserve, all well signed so you’ll make your way easily from villages and beaches to hilltops and waterfalls. Speaking of which, while the Argyle Waterfall is the most famous, get off the beaten track a bit more to avoid the crowds and take in the beauty of the Highland Waterfall instead. And, why not use the opportunity to cool off under its spray? You’ll deserve it after all that hiking.

Dive deep

There are lots of stunning dive sites all around the island

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, Tobago has got the scuba diving experience for you. With schools and instructors you can get to grips with the technique during your stay, or head out on more advanced expeditions into the stunning reefs around the island. There’s a whole world of wonder underneath the waves with numerous sites to explore. Dive down to see the world’s largest brain coral and be amazed as you swim alongside vibrant schools of fish, barracudas, moray eels, black tip reef sharks and eagle rays. The waters are crystal clear and with over 50 dive sites, you’ll need to come back to see them all.

A once in a lifetime wonder

Witness a wonder of the natural world as leatherback turtles come ashore to nest

If you visit Tobago between March and September then an absolute must is a tour to see giant leatherback turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. And if you’re lucky, and depending on the time of year, you may even spot the baby turtles taking their first steps as they make their way into the ocean. A truly unforgettable experience.

Pony trekking, with a difference

Horse riding has never been so exciting. Set out on a guided trail and before you know it your steed will be chest deep in the sea with you along for the ride. You might even find some underwater wildlife swimming along beside you, as you stride through the waves.

Every day’s a beach day

Tobago’s beaches are second to none and however you like to enjoy them, there’s one, or two, with your name on them. Many have great cafes, bars and restaurants as well as showers and bathrooms, making them ideal for families and larger groups, as well as couples.

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to untouched beaches in Tobago

Surf’s up

Surfer dudes will find plenty of waves at Mount Irvine Bay from November to April and with picnic tables, a restaurant and bar, all beachside too, you can spend the whole day hanging ten before kicking back to watch the sunset.

Thrillseekers apply here

Try kite surfing at Pigeon Point Heritage Park

Many of Tobago’s beaches will offer you the opportunity to try out a whole range of water sports and activities. From windsurfing to jet skis and kite surfing to paddle boarding, it’s all here to give you that rush of adrenaline. Pigeon Point Heritage Park is a real hub for water sports but you’ll also find hire shops and instructors around the island at Store Bay, Lowlands Beach and Speyside, to name a few.

Discover hidden sands

Englishman’s Bay is a secluded haven

Tobago is blessed with a huge number of beaches, many of which are truly untouched. You can find secluded bays and hidden sands around every corner so even if you’re on a tour or hike, we suggest taking a bathing suit on every outing because those aquamarine waters are too tempting to resist. Accessible only by boat or steps, Pirate’s Bay is perfect for those with an adventurous spirit. Castara is overlooked by a fishing village and a great spot to watch the day’s catch being hauled onto land. Englishman’s Bay has a restaurant but still feels remote, while the sheltered Bloody Bay is actually the most peaceful. Plus, there are lagoons, remote spits and sandbanks where you can live out your dream of living on a deserted island. Bliss.

All the feels

Where better to fall in love all over again than a tropical paradise?

Seal it with a kiss

Will you find everlasting love at Nylon Pool?

One of Tobago’s most legendary locations is Nylon Pool. This sandbank is in the middle of the ocean, a few miles off the coast. And while it’s a stunning spot with ideal conditions for swimming and snorkelling, there’s one reason in particular it’s so popular with lovers. Legend has it that if a couple kisses under the water here, then they’ll be blessed with a lifetime of happiness.

There’s only one way to find out.

Sunset strolls and romantic rambles

Tobago provides the ultimate backdrops for romance

Spending time alone together is what it’s all about, so get away from the main attractions and wander through some of Tobago’s pretty villages where you can take in the beautiful local colour, flora and fauna, all to the soundtrack of the island’s hummingbirds. And what better way to end a romantic day than by walking hand in hand at sunset across the sands of your favourite Tobago beach? It could even be the perfect moment for a proposal…

Celebrate love

Celebrate love at the Moriah Ole Time Tobago Wedding

Whether you’re engaged, married, on your honeymoon or in the first flushes of your relationship, why not celebrate love with the locals? During the Tobago Heritage Festival you can follow the procession of the Moriah Ole Time Tobago Wedding. This wonderful tradition sees couples from the island dressing up in their wedding dresses and suits as they parade from Kitty Bamboo Gully to Lincoln Gap. With music and dancing, you can’t fail to feel the love in the air.

Make it official

Where better to say ‘I do’?

If you’re engaged and looking for a fabulous destination for your own wedding, then why not say ‘I do’ in Tobago? From beachside vows to breathtaking clifftop backdrops, you’ll create a day you’ll always remember. And with wedding planners, caterers, musicians and florists all available on the island to help, you can relax knowing it’s all under control.

Culture, food and festivals

With festivals, incredible food and music to make you get up and dance, feeling like a local has never been so much fun.

Take it to church

Every Sunday evening the village of Buccoo hosts Sunday School. But this isn’t the kind you remember from childhood. This is a weekly street party that kicks off with the Buccooneers Steel Band Orchestra playing pans, before the main sound system takes over the dance floor, rocking the partygoers with the best soca beats. It’s a great place to people watch and make friends with the island’s residents, but we guarantee you won’t be able to resist getting up on your feet to join in.

The flavours of Tobago

Jemma’s Tree House Restaurant is just one of many on the island where you can try the local cuisine

Tobago’s cuisine is a melting pot with African, Indian, Chinese and European influences coming together to create something truly unique (and delicious). So while you’re there make it your mission to try all the island’s signature dishes. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, beach bars and food stalls offering an authentic taste of local eats. An absolute must is a plate of curried crab and dumplings and there’s also plenty of fresh seafood to indulge in as well as the sweetest fruits like mango and pineapple.

Carouse at Carnival

Dance to calypso and soca beats at Tobago Carnival

Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival is the biggest and best in the Caribbean and with a whole schedule of events, parades and parties to attend, the island is alive with the sounds of soca and calypso beats. You’ll be swept away on a sea of colour and there’s no better way to be completely immersed in the culture of this incredible island.
