Remember when you were younger and used to fashion a make-shift wedding dress out of loo roll? Well there’s an actual award for that pastime… for adults.
The 15th Annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest just crowed Mimoza Haska, of South Carolina, as its 2019 winner.
The event, which took place in New York last week, featured 12 top designs – from more than 1,500 entries.
All the magnificently crafted dresses varied in design but were made up of toilet tissue, tape, glue, thread and nothing more.
The 12 contestants were entered into three categories: traditional, modern and cultural.
A winner was chosen for each group but the judges also crowned first, second and third place, overall.
The creative garments were critiqued by a panel of celebrity judges including Laura Gawne and Susan Bain, co-creators of the contest and owners of Charm Weddings, Monte Durham from Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, and Zanna Roberts Rassi, fashion editor at Marie Claire US.
Mimoza Haska’s crocheted toilet paper gown bagged her first place, along with $10,000.
Donna Vincler placed second with her vintage-inspired gown complete with a floral headpiece. She received $5,000 for her efforts.
Third place overall went to Susan Nicholson for her ‘cultural’ gown, which included a top hat and a full mermaid skirt. She was treated to a cheque for $2,500.
The annual contest came about 15 years ago, based on the popular hen do game.
Since then, it’s skyrocketed in popularity and the number of entries every year has continued to grow.
Long may it continue!
