The festival of lights is lighting up social media.
As Hindus, Sikhs and Jains around the world kick off Diwali celebrations, people have taken to social media to share heartfelt wishes, greetings and, of course, memes – with Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar breaking his four-month silence to join in.
Here’s a round-up of what social media users and celebs are sharing for Diwali 2019.
Celebrities wishing a Happy Diwali
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is just one of the many public figures sharing his Diwali wishes online.
Jeremy Corbyn, Arsenal FC and Boris Johnson have also posted messages of support and celebration.
Diwali memes
Of course, this being the generation of social media and memes, it wasn’t long until those taking part in celebrations started to poke fun at some of the quirks.
A big message for this year’s Diwali was to try and limit how many firecrackers are lit, in a bid to make the festival more environmentally-friendly.
